Renovated public lighting in Priboj
Reducing light pollution and energy consumption for lighting are two of the more important measures on the road to a low-carbon society. Petrol therefore pays special attention to projects for improving the energy efficiency of public lighting. We are proud that another successful partnership in the field of efficient public lighting enabled us to contribute to this goal and thus help the Serbian municipality of Priboj achieve up to 70% savings in electricity consumption.
The municipality of Priboj in Serbia has entered into a public-private partnership with Petrol and local partners and in August 2020 completed the replacement of almost 2,000 energy-inefficient lamps with new LED lamps. The project will save more than 70% of electricity, improve road lighting, reduce light pollution and reduce CO2 emissions by more than 440 tonnes per year, which is equal to the amount absorbed annually by 22,000 trees.
Not only is lighting the city’s most visible infrastructure, it can also represent the base infrastructure in smart city development. In addition to reducing operating costs (electricity, maintenance and management), efficient and economical public lighting also provides lighting comfort for users of public areas and thus greater traffic and general safety, which is highly valuable.
