Compressed natural gas
Choose the cleanest alternative to gasoline, diesel and fuel oil by far, which records an annual use growth of 30%.
Contact usTechnologies and environmentally friendly energy products that make a significant contribution to decarbonisation are becoming increasingly important. Compressed natural gas or CNG is one of the cleaner propulsion fuels, recording an annual growth of 30%.
Petrol supports the transition to cleaner motor fuels by supplying drivers with environmentally-friendly energy products through our network of petrol stations and supporting cities and urban centers in establishing a CNG filling infrastructure for the needs of public transport.
Already being established by Petrol Serbia is a CNG filling station to enable competitive distribution of CNG for all areas of use.
Environmentally friendly transport fuel
Global transport carbon dioxide emissions account for as much as 23% of all CO2 emissions, increasing in 2010-2015 with a 2.5% annual trend (OECD/IEA, 2017). At this pace, transport will soon contribute more than a quarter of all global emissions.
Compressed natural gas causes almost 40% less hydrocarbon emissions in combustion and consumption. Compared to other alternative fuels, it is by far the cleanest and is safer in case of spillage, as it is lighter than air and quickly dispersed.
Natural gas-powered vehicles claim cheaper propulsion fuel, a longer engine life and cleaner, odorless emissions. Due to savings in operational and maintenance costs, these vehicles are more cost efficient during their lifetime and are, most importantly, more environmentally friendly.
Industrial production processes and remote heating systems
The process of decarbonisation is increasingly taking place in industrial processes and in urban centers. Here, a significant part of the carbon dioxide emissions is contributed by the production process, the process of heating buildings, and by urban remote heating systems.
While CNG, supplied as fuel in a trailer, does take up some space, it also features many advantages:
- It is a cleaner energy source that allows for lower emissions and achieves legal environmental parameters.
- It is extremely advantageous when switching from fuel oil, since the transition only requires the replacement of the burner instead of the entire heating system, resulting in investment savings.
- It is a cheaper energy source, resulting in operational savings.
- Due to technological compliance, it enables an easier and cheaper transition to gas in areas where a connection to the gas network is planned, but not yet built.
