First charging of LPP electric buses at a Petrol point of sale
Last week, Petrol successfully carried out a test charging of two electric buses used by Ljubljanski potniški promet (LPP) at its Barje – North point of sale. The buses were charged using ultra-fast charging stations with power outputs of up to 300 and 350 kW. This successful test confirms the important strategic partnership between LPP and the Petrol Group, and their significant impact on the development of sustainable transport in Slovenia.
E-mobility is also increasingly expanding into the heavy vehicle segment, which includes buses. In order to transition to a low-carbon society and to ensure that e-mobility is easy to use for all, it is crucial to develop both charging infrastructure and companies’ understanding of the technology in order to take sustainable steps towards the decarbonisation of society.
On Monday, 20 May 2024, electric buses manufactured by BYD and Mercedes were test-charged at a Petrol point of sale. The charging took place at the Barje – North point of sale, where there is a charging park with ultra-fast charging stations. The two electric buses were charged at charging stations with 300 and 350 kW of rated power respectively. The successful charging represents an important step in the development of e-mobility in the heavy vehicle segment and for further cooperation between the Petrol Group and LPP.
Petrol to install EV charging stations for heavy vehicles in order to provide charging infrastructure for all vehicles
In line with its strategy and mission, the Petrol Group has set itself the goal of providing adequate charging infrastructure for all types of vehicles, including heavy vehicles. Its commitment to this goal is also demonstrated by its participation in the CROSS-E project, under which the Petrol Group will start installing the first EV charging stations for heavy vehicles in Slovenia and Croatia. Luka Strnad Peterca, Head of Development of E-vehicle Charging Infrastructure at Petrol, said, "Petrol is committed to a sustainable transition and is a reliable partner for all users and all types of road vehicle. In the future, Petrol will continue to provide ultra-fast charging for electric buses and trucks, similar to what it currently provides for conventional buses. We have successfully tested the charging of state-of-the-art electric buses at Petrol's ultra-fast charging stations at the Barje point of sale. This is a forecast for the future, in which we will continue to build infrastructure for different vehicles on the motorway network."
LPP to gradually introduce e-buses for a green future
The public transport provider LPP (Ljubljanski potniški promet) also demonstrated its commitment to the transition of public transport to electric power. Zoran Stojinović, Head of the Demand-Responsive Transport Service at LPP d.o.o., commented on the successful charging test: "At LPP, we are focusing on the future with the gradual introduction of electric and hydrogen-powered buses that will reduce our environmental footprint and improve the quality of public passenger transport. As part of our fleet modernisation activities, which include the introduction of advanced technologies, we approached our long-standing business partner, Petrol Group, to allow us to test charge two electric test buses on their ultra-fast EV charging station. Working with Petrol will allow us to obtain key data that will be used to prepare the public contract for the installation of e-infrastructure at our location. This data is essential for the successful integration of the new buses into our fleet and for ensuring efficient and sustainable mobility in Ljubljana."
